For 14 years, the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival has ridden the sweet spot where sports and art meet. Where even the arts events are packed full of adrenaline. State of the Art gallery show fills the Whistler Conference Centre Foyer with mind-bombs and eye-candy from break-out contemporary artists from the worlds of street and snow. This is a world in which nobody is colouring inside the lines.

"What's at stake is a revolutionary new approach that will help bring balance in our communities. The billboard tax will provide the funds for proper enforcement of the new billboard bylaw as well as generate new funds for art in the public sphere
- including murals, sculptures, festivals, accessible arts programming, outdoor performances and more." -Lisa Martin, Well and Good

August 20, 2009 marks EGR's upcoming solo show in Toronto.
Summer Time in The City is a celebration of 10 years of EGR art in Toronto.
EGR aka Erica Gosich Rose, grew up in Burlington; a quiet suburban city just a train ride away from Toronto, Canada. Her fascination with street art intensified while traveling to and from Sheridan College for Interpretive Illustration; the aesthetics and concepts of which are still featured prominently in her work today. EGR's works can be found on crumbling city walls and in pristine art galleries, from fine art to murals, illustration and live art. Part of EGR's appeal is her ability to bridge art, design and functional purpose, and her current exhibition, Summer Time in The City, does just that. She is just as comfortable with traditional oil paints and brushes as she is wielding aerosol spraycans- in locales as far as Australia and even Florence, Italy. Pop culture and social references abound in the work of miss EGR, though the female perspective is a recurring staple. As women are still a minority in the boys' club of urban art, many consider her a pioneer in the street art world.

"Red Violet" Returns
The painting, once stolen, is now found

A special Thank You goes out to the sweet lady who took it upon herself to return the original artwork, 'Red Violet', to me after coming across the piece. The painting was stolen over 7 years ago from a downtown bistro where I had showcased my work.

The Beautiful City Billboard Fee (BCBF) would see a minimum of six million dollars gathered from an annual license fee, to employ artists and fund urban beautification.
Paid by billboard advertisers, revenue would be directed through the Toronto Arts Council into public art -- with a priority put on marginalized communities and youth art.
Wherever you are in Canada, we still need your help! Please sign and forward the petition here:
http://www.them.ca/bcbfpetition.asp
And even more recently, Toronto city staff are receiving a large number of emails from the industry opposing and thus starting to ratchet down the amount of the tax, going to Exec. Committee on June 2nd. It is essential that everyone send something like the following to:
signbylawproject@toronto.ca
Dear Sign Bylaw Project:
I am contacting you to lend my support for the proposed billboard tax for public art and enforcement outlined on your website. Enforcement is needed to clean up Toronto art and make it more beautiful. We need more inspiration and less visual pollution.
Thank you for working on this amazing project.

The city of Cape Town in South Africa is in need of our support, facing a new anti-graffiti by-law which takes away the house owners rights to give permission for any artworks on their walls besides a house number.
The new, proposed graffiti by-law criminalizes all forms of public art and violates our personal right to freedom of expression on private property.
It makes no distinction between vandalism and public art that is done with the permission of the owner of the property.
Please assist to amend this by-law by signing the petition and forwarding it on:
